HELP SAVE KHD

Running an excavation takes money. Only the local field workers and area staff are paid. Everyone else donates their time and expertise for free. They need to be flown to Egypt, housed, fed and transported for a month-long excavation. We need to provide tools, hire heavy machinery, technical support (such as specialist analyses, or sub-ground imaging) and logistical backup, as well as paying the workers’ salaries and training up students to become the next generation of Egyptian archaeologists. While some of the work can be done on a shoestring, it costs at least $30,000 to run the project properly for a month, which is where we are appealing to you. 

The clock is also against us. One of the reasons we were granted the permission to work there is that KHD is on the endangered sites register, which lists sites threatened by development or environmental factors. KHD is being eroded by urban sprawl and fast-rising water levels secondary to local irrigation; the site and its archaeology are under grave threat.
